History of our Parish
St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and Parochial School is located on the west side of South Bend, IN, and is a part of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend. Founded in 1956, Rev. Joe Jacobs was named as our first pastor by the fifth bishop of the diocese, Archbishop John F. Noll. Our parish continues today under the guidance of the ninth bishop of the diocese, Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades, and our pastor, Rev. Glenn Kohrman. Since the parish was founded, many have come to worship God in this holy place. Through their sacrifice, they have made the parish what it is today: A community shining with the light of Jesus Christ.
Fr. Glenn Kohrman was named pastor of St. John's on September 27, 2016. He has also served as the pastor of Holy Family Catholic Church since June 17, 2014. Before being ordained a priest, Fr. Glenn received a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University. Given his scientific background, Fr. Glenn desires to strongly promote how both Faith and Reason work together to provide a sound understanding of our Catholic Faith.
